Peppy Potipot Island

An Island in the Northern part of Zambales Province. Potipot Island promises everyone a  fine, white sand, great sunshine and cool breeze coming from an open sea or from the waters of the South China Sea.

It  was  month of April when we went to this famous island to have our first ever team building.

Right after our shift and it was  4 a.m we left Makati City and we’re riding in this so called “ Starex  Van” bringing along with us our stuff and foods , and then we had some stop-overs somewhere in Zambales  to have some rest, and some have to pee, and bought some additional foods and things that are needed for the said event. It was a long trip indeed, which may take up to 5 hours maximum. But it was a trip filled fun and so many “First time’s” for me. It was my first  time to see  “SBMA” while on a ride, first time to have team building with my colleagues  and first time to experience the beach and waters of Potipot Island.

                                                              “Here are the Happy People!

We stayed at  “ Dawal Beach Resort” in Candelaria,Zambales. The resort is very cozy and as expected there resort is filled with guest since it was summer.

I went to see the beach and it was like grey in color.  Not too far I saw  Potipot Island. It's vegetation is still intact.

That is Potipot Island!

We took a “Bangka” to get to the island which will take less  than  10 minutes. The weather was perfectly fine for a summer getaway.  I had this picture in my mind that Potipot Island is like a secluded island plus less number of people in it. But it was only in my imagination. I was amazed that waters of this Island is clear and it’s aquamarine color reminds me of waters in Boracay and of Samal Island. I recognized some familiar trees in the island like Kamachile, some I forgot their names and some I never knew.

Aquamarine under mid-day sun.
However, That feeling of being amazed was cut-off short seeing that there are plenty of house like structure “ Kubo” in the Island, You can Actually see this  small “Kubo” selling liquors, cigarettes and some food junk foods. It is not an issue for me seeing some people making money in this small island. What saddens me is that the Island is being neglected. When I say “neglected” there are traces of garbage’s in the shore, cigarette butts are being buried. Anyway, So much of that sad story.

Just imagine the crisp color of sunset.
My total experience was fantastic!. Best description of POTIPOT Island: Beautiful and needs to be Preserved.

Recommendations:

1. It is better to have a vehicle or private service if you are planning have a team building or a getaway.
2. You can stay in the island overnight you can ask the “Bangka-fisherman” to fetch you next day or the following day.
3. You can walk or rediscover the entire island for less an hour.
4. Must try to buy their sweet fruits or mangoes along the roads of Zambales.
